JAMinc Presents . . . Radio Series

JAMinc Presents, our live performance radio show on VPM Music, just wrapped its third season and is currently getting a re-airing at 5pm every Saturday.

All were recorded at area venues like Révéler Experiences, the Tin Pan, In Your Ear Studio A and the Beacon Theater in Hopewell. This season’s artists included RVA favorites like Laura Ann Singh, John Winntet, and Plunky & the Oneness of Juju. Plus nationally touring artists like the Del McCoury Band, Larry & Joe, Milk Carton Kids, Yasmin Williams, Watchhouse and the Steep Canyon Rangers.

Page’s Kitchen

Page Wilson was a larger-than-life singer, songwriter and radio personality who built a huge following for his epic public radio show, the Out O’ The Blue Radio Revue before his premature passing in 2011. Saturday nights were reserved by legions of loyal listeners who tuned in for his two-hour open house in the Chickahominy Swamp where Page created compelling theater of the mind and invited roving musicians into his kitchen to swap tales and tunes after plying them with gumbo, brisket and catfish whiskers.

His Kitchen guests included some of Americana’s most important artists, and thanks to Page’s heirs Jude Schlotzhauer and Virginia Blue Wilson, these priceless recordings made some three decades ago, have been carefully digitized to live again on both public and online radio as Page’s Kitchen. The series aired originally in the summer of 2021 and all are available on VPM for on-demand streaming.

Page was an early purveyor of what he termed “pure bred American mongrel music” from pivotal artists including Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Delbert McClinton, Tony Rice, Tim & Mollie O’Brien, Indigo Girls, J.J. Cale and many more.

In the spring of 2023, VPM Music began airing another extensive list of yet-unheard performances as JAMinc presents: Page’s Kitchen…The Swamp Sessions. The full sit-down as it happened, only slightly edited for clarity. Listen out for the Good Humor Band, the Sun Rhythm Section, Kevin Welch, Maura O’Connell, Terry Garland, the Clancy Brothers, James McMurtry, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and so many others. These podcast-format programs are produced and hosted by JAMinc’s Tim Timberlake and are now streaming on demand at https://www.vpm.org/pages-kitchen
