JAMinc became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation on June 20th, 2001. We began as a small group of music-minded Richmonders wanting to provide more opportunities to hear live acoustic music and find ways to expose young people to the joy it can bring.

In the quarter century since, we’ve presented hundreds of intimate concerts primarily at In Your Ear’s Studio A and since the pandemic, partnered with other venues to present live music of many genres. For the past 10 years or so, we’ve produced a public radio show on VPM Music now called JAMinc Presents. It features local and national/world artists in live performance at area listening spots in an hour-long program still airing Saturdays at 5pm for most of the year. All these past programs are available for on demand streaming on the VPM website.

We’ve launched the JAMinc Collective, an online resource for public and private schools to access local musicians to play in their respective classrooms and auditoriums. We continue to partner with the Richmond Folk Festival each October to present four area artists on the Family Stage, and to organize transportation and sound support for the RFF school outreach on Festival Friday.

Our veteran board of directors is currently evaluating the evolving RVA musical landscape for the most effective ways of fulfilling our mission, often supporting other worthy ventures like 804 Day, Shockoe Sessions Live, the Black History Museum and the Fuchsia Freedom Garden project in Jackson Ward.

We’re grateful to our visionary founder Wally Thulin and departed directors Robbin Thompson and Scott Street for charting our course thus far and look forward to another 25 years of serving music in our hometown.
